Tacy McCoy, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

My Approach to Helping

Hi, my name is Tacy. I absolutely love what I do and it is a privilege to be a witness to others’ healing and mental health journeys. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and therapist who specializes in PTSD, addiction, adolescents, family and couples therapy. I have years of experience working with veterans, active duty military and their families. I have worked with individuals, families and couples from almost every walk of life and situation imaginable. I believe that people are not “broken” although many come into therapy believing so. There are always spaces in us that reach for healing, relationships with others, and self-growth. I consider my job to be the best job in the world, as I have the honor of being a guide to helping others find their inner strength and life meaning.

I am rostered in CPT (a gold star treatment for PTSD), CBT-SUD for those struggling with addiction, and have countless hours and experience working with clients in crisis and general mental health issues. I have worked with adolescents in a partial hospitalization program and their families. I utilize the Gottman method in my work with couples. I like to think of myself as a well-rounded therapist and I do not subscribe to a “one size fits all” approach.

The theoretical base of the therapy I provide always includes the root and role of attachment. The impact of relationship with others, and how we see ourselves, impacts every facet of our life. I will provide a compassionate, honest and non-judgmental space for my clients to process their struggles and find a way forward. It takes an incredible amount of courage to truly look inward, and I will always respect that process. So please reach out, and lets see if it is a good fit for you. I look forward to hearing from you.

“We are made to persist. That’s how we find out who we are.”

~ Tobias Wolff

A Few Services I Provide

Services also known as modes or types of mental health care sessions can be given in a variety of formats, including:

  • Individual Therapy & Counseling: This therapy involves only the patient and the therapist. Sometimes called psychotherapy or talk therapy is a process through which a client works one-on-one with a trained mental health clinician in a safe, caring, and confidential environment.
  • Family Counseling: Because family is a key part of the team that helps people with mental illness get better, it is sometimes helpful for family members to understand what their loved one is going through, how they themselves can cope, and what they can do to help.
  • Group Counseling: Two or more patients may participate in therapy at the same time. Patients can share experiences and learn that others feel the same way and have had the same experiences.
  • Marital/Couples Counseling: This type of therapy helps a couple that is struggling with aspects of their relationship. This type of therapy can also be used o help spouses and partners understand why their loved one has a mental disorder, what changes in communication and behaviors can help, and what they can do to cope.
  • Premarital Counseling: A type of therapy that helps couples take the next step in their relationship, resolve issues in their relationship before they commit to marriage, or set relationship goals.
  • Telehealth: Also known as teletherapy, generally, refers to individual psychotherapy or talk therapy delivered through technology like video conferencing.

Types of Therapy

Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy that aims to help people manage mental health conditions or cope with negative experiences and behaviors. One of the goals of group therapy is to bring people who share similar experiences together.

Meeting other people recovering from or working through similar issues helps people realize that they are not alone. Group members and therapists can help each other by sharing information and offering advice. Group members can support, reassure, and help each other improve throughout the treatment. Below are the groups I lead:

    • Youth 13-17 years of age
    • Young Adults 18-25 years of age
    • Parents
    • Grandparents
    • Co-Parenting
    • Non-traditional Caregivers
    • Addiction recovery
